Performance Measures of a UWB Multiple-Access System: DS/CDMA versus TH/PPM
نویسندگان
چکیده
Time-hopping combined with pulse position modulation has been the original proposal for ultra-wideband systems. Spread spectrum techniques for multiple access and interference suppression are being considered for ultra-wideband radio systems. A digital impulse radio receiver using direct-sequence spreading is proposed in the paper and the signal processing scheme is investigated. Performance measures, such as error rate, multi-user capability, and system data rate for the proposed receiver structure, are derived mathematically and compared with the impulse receiver deploying time-hopping. The direct-sequence format is shown to support more active users; i.e, provide multi-access communications at a lower biterror rate. Upper bounds for the number of permissible active users and the system data rate are derived analytically.

Multiple access performance in UWB systems using time hopping vs. direct sequence spreading
Ultra-wideband radio systems operate using extremely short duration signaling pulses. Spread spectrum techniques for multiple access and interference suppression are commonly considered for such systems. We compare time-hopping spread spectrum with pulse position modulation (TH-PPM) and timehopping/direct-sequence spreading with antipodal signaling (TH/DS-BPSK) in terms of their multiple access...

The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...
متن کاملQPSK Impulse Signal Transmission for Ultra Wide Band Communication Systems in Multipath Channel Environments
In this paper, three new ultra wideband (UWB) communication systems with quadrature-phase shift keying (QPSK) impulse modulation are proposed. First, direct-sequence (DS) multiple-access scheme is applied. The second proposed system is based on time-hopping (TH) multiple-access scheme. The last proposed system applies TH multipleaccess scheme with QPSK impulse modulation and pulse position modu...
متن کاملRandom Sign Repetition Time-Hopping UWB with Multiuser Detection
Recently, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which uses a very short pulse for wireless digital communications, has been extensively investigated due to its significance that enables to transmit data sequences at a very high rate. Although the propagation range of UWB signals is short (about ten meters [1]), its impact on wireless home networks can be quite significant. Apart from the support of ...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of PPM-TH, PAM-TH, and PAM-DS UWB Rake Receivers with Channel Estimators via Correlation Mask
In this paper, the performance comparison of PPM-TH, PAM-TH, and PAM-DS UWB for a single user link are analyzed for different data rates using the proposed UWB channel model from IEEE 802.15.3a. The Rake receivers with a pulse-matched filter via correlation mask are numerically evaluated with channel estimator algorithm. DS-UWB and TH-UWB with antipodal modulation perform basically the same. Ho...
